Plank2bank Scholarship by Dr, J: Empowering Nurses Through Physical and Academic Excellence

Fund Purpose: The Plank 2 Bank Scholarship focuses on uplifting nurses by recognizing their physical and academic potential. The purpose is to support their journey through financial assistance, promoting overall health and excellence in the nursing profession. Inspired by Dr. J’s own experience as a higher education learner, knows exactly how it feels to stress over finances instead of focusing on exams. As a DPT, he also knows how it feels to treat nurses who have chronic back injuries by just doing their job. That’s why this scholarship exists: to give learners a financial boost while also sparking a mindset shift toward long-term physical endurance and wellness. It’s not just about paying for school – it’s about setting nurses up for success in their careers, and in their bodies, for years to come.

Fund Overview: plank2bank Scholarship: 2 Distinct Pathways

Pathway 1: Plank Your Way to a Scholarship – Learner Driven

  • Learners are required to complete a traditional application, which also will include a video demonstration of a plank exercise.
  • Top 5 scoring applications will be invited to a special Teams event that can be view by others – the plank challenge. Best time and form will be awarded a scholarship (amount for 2026 TBD).

Pathway 2: Plank for a Future – Collaborator Driven

An annual competition for collaborators at Flame Forward 2025. Planking challenge at Foundation Booth, where the top performing collaborator (longest-plank time) will have the opportunity to award a scholarship (amount for 2026 TBD) to a learner of their choosing. This initiative creates a dynamic link between the workforce and education. It aims to recognize employee excellence while supporting the next generation of nursing professionals.

  • Collaborators can visit the Nightingale Foundation booth at Flame Forward 2026 to plank it out! To participate, collaborators are asked to make a minimum $5 donation (and liability release) to be put towards increasing the scholarship awarded. (At the Nightingale Foundation Flame Forward Booth there will be a QR code to scan to donate, as well as an established fund to donate to).
  • Collaborators will plank it out doing their best version and longest time in a forearm, on toes plank.
  • Scores will be kept as a running tally at the white board.
  • Collaborators can plank more than once to move up the leaderboard, but only need to donate once.
  • Final plank challenges will occur Wednesday, at lunchtime and winner to be announced at the gala.

The plank2bank Scholarship emphasizes physical resilience, a critical attribute for nurses dealing with the physical demands of long shifts. Improved core strength and endurance decrease injury risks, promoting longevity in nursing careers.

Fund Eligibility: Active, matriculated learners in any undergraduate program are eligible to apply and be awarded this scholarship. Foundational learners during Fall 2026 semester are not eligible. MSN program learners are not eligible.

  • Awarded funding may be used toward tuition and fees.

Amount: TBD for 2026

*Pathway 2 has the ability to increase the funds awarded based on in person planking challenge at Flame Forward.
